Does husband have a chance in receiving life insurance proceeds if mother to wife is sole beneficiary?

My sister just ped away and has a large life insurance, unknown to my mom until recently, and made her the sole beneficiary. The surviving husband is making threats that he too has legal rights to that proceed. What does he have legally?
