Bought my son a LCD HD Ready TV and a playstation 3 for xmas and a HDMI cable but the sound is a buzz?

i bought a HDMI cable to make the TV HD but the sound is just a buzz, is it because i got a cheap cable? Any idea's before i go out and spend more money? The picture is fantastic by the way its just the sound, its not audible at all
